It looks like YouTube has accidentally removed multiple political channels. There have been a number of cases and now the company says the channels were mistakenly removed by human moderators.
We recently posted a story about YouTube moderation work and the issues the team faces . Human moderators find it difficult to determine what is or is not inappropriate content, and this has given the video platform headache.
Now a number of channels have been excluded, including some conspiracy theorists, gun collectors and some members of the alt-right, a group of neo-Nazis.
According to YouTube, the exclusions were due to an accident caused by new, inexperienced employees. A spokesman told Bloomberg:
As we work to hiring and rapidly increasing our policy enforcement teams throughout 2018, younger members may misapply some of our policies, resulting in the wrong changes. We continue to apply our existing policies regarding harmful and harmful content, [they] have not changed. We will return all videos that have been removed in error.
Even today, we have posted the news that YouTube banned the channel from a group of neo-Nazis called ‘Atomwaffen’ that had been in business for quite some time. It published content that violated the policies of the youtuber community, without suffering any kind of consequence.
However, it is not clear whether this exclusion was also part of the “accidental” removals of novice moderators. It remains to wait to know if the platform will put the neo-Nazi videos back on the platform, or not.
