Niantic, of Pokémon GO Acquires Producer Rights of Marvel Strike Force

Pokemon Go developer Niantic has acquired Seismic Games, developer of Marvel Strike Force.

It’s the season of “scouting” in the mobile world. Companies already consolidated seek to increase their catalog – not creating – but buying smaller producers. After confirmation of Ubisoft’s purchase of the 1492 Studio, Niantic of Pokémon GO acquired the Marvel Strike Force producer.

The Los Angeles-based studio has developed VR mobile titles, including Blade Runner: Revelations. Seismic has partnered with companies such as Marvel, FoxNext, and Sony Television.

Seismic Games will continue to develop existing games while the studio moves on to build new AR experiences with Niantic and its Real World Platform.

Seismic is formed by veterans of the EA, Pandemic and Activision, who led the development of Star Wars: Original Battlefront.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“At Niantic, we are committed to our mission to motivate people to exercise, be sociable, and discover new places,” said Niantic CEO John Hanke.

“We are confident Seismic Games will help us accomplish this mission faster and better.”

Marvel: Strike Force ( Android and iOS ) has had a successful start-up since launching in March and grossed more than $ 25 million. The game already has 10 million downloads.
