It was expected that Microsoft would launch a Surface Phone owing to the repeated appeals of the Surface Device Fans. A rumor has surfaced the internet, and it’s about Microsoft’s new surface phone. Some concept designs and possible renders are already leaked, and Microsoft has supposedly sent our prototypes for testing.
The project’s name is said to be ‘Andromeda‘. This points us back to Microsoft’s Andromeda OS which was to be completely modular. The aim was to make the Operating system adaptable to anything like watches to phones. Furthermore, Microsoft had highlighted the feature of removing or adding features.
The above-mentioned rumor says that the machine will run on an ARM port of Windows 10, and might use the unveiled Polaris shell. This means that the device could switch over being a desktop or laptop. Moreover, Snapdragon 835 and above have the ability to emulate 32-bit instruction sets, it might not be able to run legacy Win32 apps.
This points to a possibility that Polaris and Windows might be combined for running Universal Windows platform apps, which are the apps that run on both x86 and x64 platforms. However, if the new phone won’t have Win32 compatibility, it might not be able to be a fully functioning laptop device.
Laptops running ARM-based platforms had been unveiled by companies like HP and Asus. They had used Windows 10 S, which cannot run 32-bit apps, and use UWP apps. However, it can be upgraded to higher versions because of Snapdragon 835’s capability of emulating x86 instruction sets. However, we’re unsure if Microsoft might actually include this capability for the latest device. Till then, Hold on!
